How many calories do you burn running 1 mile?

According to Medifast and exercise physiologist Shawn Talbott, running 1 mile burns about 100 calories for an average sized person. One slice of toast will give you about 100 calories. That’s a lot of effort for one slice of bread.

Most people probably aren’t running 1 mile and probably aren’t eating just 1 slice of toast. I would venture to say most people probably feel they’ve earned more than one slice of toast for running that mile as well.

Calorie counting is a must for anyone with any type of fitness goal. Can you eat more than a piece of toast after running a mile? Of course, but the big picture is diet and exercise go together and you cannot outrun a bad diet.
