Amazon Meal Prep Guide

Simply put, you’re more likely to succeed if you take the time to plan ahead. Below are items that I use on a daily basis that allow me to spend my time more efficiently, keep me constantly prepared, and leaves my ability to adhere to my diet pretty seamless. What makes dieting fairly easy for me is I’m always prepared, food is always cooked and ready in the fridge at all times, I always have apples, bread, protein powder, etc. stuff that I can eat without cooking to reach my calorie goals. I am literally never unprepared which makes sustaining a diet plan sooooooo much easier. One constant I’ve gotten with clients over the years (not all) is the inability to initiate this part of the plan. I would consider this a necessity for beginners unless you are trying to feel a little better and have no body composition goals. If you’re trying to burn fat or build muscle this should be a requirement.

Many people coming to me over the years simply need to eat out less and they’d be in a much better position for fat loss, muscle gains, and increased performance. The “I don’t have time” excuse really doesn’t work because you have created time to get dressed for a restaurant, drive there, look over the menu, wait for your food to be cooked, sit down and eat, have your table cleaned, your bill brought out, your credit card ran, your receipt brought back, and your travel back home. When you prepare your own food or have easy food options in place it negates the “I don’t have time” excuse resulting in more free time for yourself.

I prefer the 30oz meal prep containers (most are 28oz). You can pack more food in. If you have larger size food like broccoli it feels up the space quickly. They also make multi compartment containers, once again I prefer the single simply because I generally mix my greens, carbohydrates, and protein all together in the same dish.

If you’re logging your food you really need a scale otherwise you’re wasting your time. This particular scale is cheap and measures in grams (preferred), ounces, and milliliters. Weighing food is extremely quick and easy, it literally is a matter of putting your plate on the scale. If you say you don’t have time then you’re lying to yourself. This is probably the simplest task that will have the largest impact on your weight loss or muscle gain goals.

I have one at home and at the gym that I use daily. There are a number of foods that I eat on a regular basis and I leave the calorie/macro calculations on this whiteboard for easy reference. I’ll also keep track of my intake if my schedule becomes out of the norm. It makes tracking easier, and more efficient. Once again, a cheap investment that can have a big impact on time saved.

I eat a lot of food but I don’t like to cook. I need a steady stream of protein coming in each week as I eat about 2.5lbs per day. I use my crock-pot constantly, at least every other day. I don’t season anything I put in, I’ll typically use calorie free hot sauce and popcorn season on proteins when I’m sitting down to eat. I personally would prefer food that is less flavorful as a tradeoff for spending almost time making it. I have probably never followed a recipe in my life.

The primary benefit of meal prep is having a larger quantity of meals done ahead of time. In order to accomplish this task you need to cook foods in bulk, I can probably put 4lbs of meat in my crock-pot. Such a huge time saver, as simple as dropping meat in a bucket, there is really nothing else to it.

I don’t like cooking but more than that I hate cleaning up afterwards. I discovered these liners and now I rarely ever have to clean the crock-pot. I don’t make casein protein shakes at night in a blender because I would have to clean the blender. I’m extremely lazy when it comes to cooking food and cleaning up afterwards. I always opt for a blender bottle, shake it up and put it in the dishwasher. Doesn’t taste as good but that’s the trade off for being more convenient. If you get a crock-pot, buy the liners to save yourself some unnecessary work.

I’ve never used an instant pot but have definitely heard a lot of positive feedback. It’s basically a faster crock-pot and I would assume you can find liners for this as well to make the clean up process quicker. My crock-pot does good enough for me, so I don’t really have a reason to try this but the quicker turnaround time may work better for some of you.
