Why Almond Milk is Better Than Dairy Milk..

That’s a pretty bold statement from someone who isn’t a Registered Dietitian but I think it catches the eye. We’ll start over with “Why almond milk is better than dairy milk for Taylor Carpenter“.

It’s been about 3 months since I’ve converted from Fat Free dairy milk to Almond milk and I’ll tell you why. I like to eat and right now I eat roughly 2900 calories per day, for me that number is very easily attainable. I would much rather have real whole foods (steak, chicken, pork, veggies, grains, etc). I typically drink two shakes a day (at least), one being a post workout shake and another being a plain protein shake to make sure I reach my protein macro nutrient requirements. I felt like I was wasting a lot of calories in milk that could be utilized with some of the foods mentioned above.

By replacing 3 cups per day of fat free dairy milk (270 calories) to unsweetened almond milk (120 calories), I was saving 150 calories per day or 1050 calories per week!

Additional benefits which helped me convert are…

  • 0g of Saturated Fat (the BADDDDDD fat)
  • 0g of Sugar
  • Equal Calcium and Vitamin D benefits
  • Great source for Vitamin E (dairy milk is not)
  • Extremely long shelf life (at least 1 month from date of purchase)

The price is a little more expensive for Almond Milk and unless you get a special kind the protein is usually very low compared to the 8-9g’s that dairy milk offers.
